Position Summary
The Director of Operations is responsible for, but not limited to, the operational management and oversight of multiple Sound Physicians' emergency medicine practices. The Director of Operations will have a visible presence at multiple practice locations and will focus on establishing professional relationships with the entire emergency medicine team, hospital and system C-suite executives, case management, nursing, medical staff office, as well as community providers and specialty physicians. The Director of Operations manages a team of Practice Managers that support day-to-day operations of successful Emergency Medicine Practices. This role reports to a Senior Vice President with accountability to the Divisional Chief Medical Officer(s) as well. This role works in a heavily matrixed team, having a Medical Director(s) as a dyad partner, as well as working very closely with a Director, Clinical Performance.
This is a remote, work-from-home opportunity, involving frequent travel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Initiating and leading content discussions and preparations for Joint Operations Committee, Quarterly Performance Reviews, and other hospital partner interactions. Reviewing content for final sign-off of all client-facing templates (scorecards, dashboards, action plans) developed
• Meeting regularly with each Medical Director and Director, Clinical Performance to review site performance and identify opportunities and barriers
• Proactively utilizing Sound and industry knowledge to lead discussions with hospital partners regarding short term and long-term strategic objectives, effectively communicating where Sound can provide a solution. Build strong relationships with the C-Suite at each hospital partner in assigned region, reporting on and checking in on performance on monthly basis
• Final oversight for day-to-day site operations including matters related to payroll, credentialing, human resources, recruiting, etc. with assistance of direct reports and central office departments
• Actively participating in Monthly Operating Reviews, proactively reviewing site financial statements for accuracy and trends to explain financial performance. Identifying and understanding the impact of variances and enact plans to address negative variances. Developing and managing annual budgets with responsibility for P&L performance for programs in assigned region
• Appropriately gathering and processing monthly patient level data files, troubleshooting as necessary
• Working in the pursuit of new business in the region. Coordinating individual efforts for new business with Business Development, SVP, and DCMO(s)
• Completing due diligence and site design for new partners. Creating or reviewing proposals for new business and expansion of current business, including financial proformas. Understanding the financial and operational impacts of program changes as well as pricing, including supporting or leading contract negotiations and new site implementations in conjunction with main office departments and SVP
• Leading new site implementations in conjunction with central office teams
• Supporting the Director, Clinical Performance in their development and execution of clinical processes
• Hiring, training and developing a team of practice managers
• Managing and tracking reconciliation dates, PQI submission dates, contract renewal timelines, and annual escalator anniversary dates in a timely manner
• Appropriate escalation of issue/concerns to Senior Vice President of Operations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint); knowledge of MS Project
• Knowledge of Process Improvement methodology; LEAN-Six Sigma for healthcare training is desirable
• Knowledge of relevant state and federal healthcare regulations
• Working knowledge of healthcare payment models, physician practice management, revenue cycle, payer contracting, managed care models, and Accountable Care Organization structure
• Knowledge of Emergency Medicine landscape and market forces driving the EM model of care
• Understanding of EM physician recruiting, marketing and compensation issues
• Experience working in a matrixed environment
Education and Experience
• Bachelor's Degree in business administration, healthcare administration or similar field; MBA, MHA, LEAN-Six Sigma certification, preferred
• 6-8 years' experience working with healthcare operational management, including financial statements and working knowledge of hospital and healthcare informatics, including quality measures
• Preferred: 3-4 years' experience managing a physician group practice
Salary Range
- This position offers an annual salary range of $120,000-$150,000. Exact salary will depend on the candidate’s experience, education and geographic location. This position is eligible for additional compensation beyond base pay.
