About the Role

The Associate General Counsel (Associate GC) is responsible for the administrative or legal affairs of the corporation that are delegated by the overseeing Deputy General Counsel, primarily in the area of contracting. This role requires the ability to provide or assist in providing legal services on a broad range of matters across the organization. 

The details: This role is a work-from-home, virtual opportunity.  The Associate GC may travel 1-4 times a year. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Negotiate, prepare, draft, review, approve and interpret contracts and other legal instruments including but not limited to hospital agreements, vendor agreements, corporate transaction documents, managed care, and physician services agreements.
• Interpret and implement applicable state and federal laws, rules and policies. Prepare memoranda and correspondence responding to questions of law and policy.
• Perform or oversee the performance of legal research necessary to draft and analyze various contracts, policies, and other documents to advise internal clients.
• Provide counsel on health care laws including those on privacy, government programs, fraud and abuse, physician self-referral and anti-kickback laws, and EMTALA.
• Provide guidance on billing, coding, and other reimbursement matters for compliance with government and commercial health plan requirements.
• In collaboration with compliance staff, review and monitor compliance policies and procedures and work closely with compliance to investigate and resolve compliance concerns.
• Provide counsel for legal aspects of patient care with significant medico-legal dimensions, including informed consent, medical records/privacy issues, and patients’ rights issues.
• Provide advice and counsel in conflicts of interest and other related compliance issues.
• Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest developments in corporate and healthcare law and in other related areas.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Education and Experience

• Juris Doctorate (JD) Degree; admitted to practice; member of the bar.
• 5+ years increasingly responsible law firm and in-house experience, preferably in a healthcare environment.
• Significant knowledge of laws and regulations regarding health care regulatory, corporate, compliance and transactional matters (e.g., Stark Law, Anti-kickback Statute, HIPAA, professional fee coding and documentation)
• Demonstrated negotiating experience.

Salary Range

• This position offers an annual salary range of $160,000-$190,000. Exact salary will depend on the candidate’s experience, education and geographic location. This position is eligible for additional compensation beyond base pay.
