Advance Clinical Excellence as a Nocturnist Critical Care Physician Assistant in Midlothian, VA
Bring better to the bedside in Midlothian. In this role, you’ll combine clinical skills with purpose, delivering patient-centered care while driving performance in a supportive environment. You’ll have the autonomy to lead and the resources to grow – while making a difference for patients and families every day.
We are hiring for a nocturnist position. A nocturnist role requires working exclusively overnight shifts. Candidates must be comfortable with a nocturnal schedule and possess the ability to deliver exceptional patient care during nighttime hours.
Local Team Collaboration:
- Comprehensive overnight critical care management for adult patients in a 24-bed multidisciplinary Intensive Care Unit.
- At Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center, our strong, collaborative team includes three Critical Care APPs and four Intensivists.
- Our team at Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center is part of the larger Critical Care team in the Richmond market, covering ICUs in four local Bon Secours hospitals.
- Enjoy the peer support of experienced Critical Care APPs and physicians who boast experience from a variety of disciplines associated with the ICU.
Qualifications:
- 2 years of experience as an independent provider in the ICU (with procedure logs).
- Board Certified Physician Assistant.
- Active Virginia license and DEA preferred.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
Scheduling:
- ICU coverage is comprised of a 12-hour day physician and a 12-hour nocturnist Critical Care APP.
- Average of 12-14 night shifts per month, modified block schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
- The APP works collaboratively with daytime intensivists, nursing staff, respiratory therapists, consultants, and the hospitalist team to deliver high-quality, evidence-based critical care services during night shifts.
- Provide overnight coverage for critically ill adult ICU patients (acute respiratory failure, pneumonia, cardiogenic shock, NSTEMI/STEMI, cardiac arrest, acute ischemic stroke, sepsis, etc.).
- Perform comprehensive assessments, develop differential diagnosis, and implement treatment plans.
- Manage mechanical ventilation in collaboration with respiratory therapy.
- Coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges from the ICU.
- Participate in goals-of-care discussions and family communication when appropriate.
- Perform bedside procedures within the scope of practice and credentialing, including Central venous catheter placement, Arterial line placement, temporary hemodialysis catheter placement, and Endotracheal intubation. Anesthesia support for airways is available as needed.
- Participate in modified night multidisciplinary rounds and handoff communication.
- Participate in quality improvement and performance initiatives as appropriate.
- Facilitate ICU admissions from the emergency department, hospitalist services, and outside facilities.
