Local Team Collaboration:

  • Aiken Regional Medical Centers is a 273 licensed-bed acute care hospital, primary stroke center, and community-based teaching hospital that offers a comprehensive range of specialties and services.
  • 20-bed closed ICU (med/surg/cardiac surgery population), which is staffed with one intensivist from 7am-7pm. TeleICU covers nights (this is a day shift only role).
  • Internal Medicine Residency program. Residents are always present in the ICU during the day.
  • Phenomenal hospital administration. The CEO is an advocate for the hospital and a true partner to our critical care program. The EM and HM services are also through Sound, and we are a tight-knit group.
  • Within the hospital, we work closely with our colleagues in other departments to ensure smooth transitions of care. Many of our team members are active in several committees, including stroke, sepsis, and practice guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Board-certified or board-eligible critical care physicians (MD or DO).
  • Ability to perform all technical skills in the critical care setting.
  • A commitment to excellence in clinical service, with strong problem-solving abilities essential for the ICU setting.

Scheduling:

  • 14-15 clinical day shifts per month.
  • We collaborate to manage the schedule as equitably as possible, ensuring our intensivists achieve an outstanding work/family life balance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent patient care in our 20-bed ICU.
  • Teaching responsibility for Internal Medicine residents.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within the ICU with all team members and across the hospital.
  • EMR: Cerner.

Located centrally between the Carolina coast, mountains, and major cities in Georgia and the Carolinas, Aiken is a family-oriented community offering an ideal climate, excellent schools, and safe neighborhoods. Outdoor recreation options, oak tree canopy-lined streets, and a hip and thriving downtown with excellent restaurants, shops, and galleries combine to offer an exceptional quality of life. Aiken also enjoys proximity to Augusta, GA, home of the annual Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club and the Medical College of Georgia, a large academic medical center with an international community.
  • Easy commutes to high elevations in the Blue Ridge Mountains and low country beach towns like Charleston and Savannah.
  • Augusta, GA, is about 30 minutes southwest of Aiken, offering more metro amenities. Columbia, SC, is about an hour northwest of Aiken, although many medical staff live in West Columbia suburbs, like Lexington, SC, which is an excellent community with a strong school system (45-minute commute to Aiken).
