Nocturnist – Tacoma, WA

To prospective teammates,

I’m the medical director for Sound’s internal medicine practice at MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. I proudly have been a part of Sound for six years and have obtained senior partnerships. I welcome interest from physicians and advanced practice providers coming out of training or desiring a career change. I want to share more about it, specifically about our people, practice, and purpose, as you consider your next steps.

People
  • We are a closely knit, established team of 28 physicians and six APPs, with the support of a clinical performance nurse. Our team is amiable and collaborative, and we help each other to the best of our ability.
  • We have a diverse group of clinicians from all over the world.
  • From time to time, our team will meet for dinners, potlucks, sailing and hiking groups, and various social gatherings.
  • We proudly sponsor H1B and J1 visa candidates, and Sound has excellent in-house visa specialists and our licensing and credentialing experts. All required filing fees for the visa are paid, and services are covered by Sound.
Practice
  • We welcome the challenge of complex cases. We have a true closed ICU with intensivist coverage during the day and E-ICU coverage at night (our team is not expected to do procedures); we respond to codes and rapids.
  • For those who like to teach, we work with new and experienced APPs.
  • We are highly involved in operations and significantly influence committees and meetings. We have team meetings every five weeks so our team members can be more involved.
  • Most of us like to spend time with our families or outdoors, so we cover for each other when planning time off.
  • Full-time yearly compensation is $289k-$313k depending on experience.
  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability, 401k with match, paid medical malpractice and tail coverage, and annual CME allowance.
Purpose
  • We put patients first. Always! We take the opportunity to provide the best care to our patients while lowering the cost to our hospital partners.
  • A focus on growth and development is a key feature of Sound practices, where teammates can expand their careers locally and within the broader medical group.
  • We’re a community-minded team and encourage our team members who want to contribute in and out of the hospital to help make our local community thrive. Our team can educate their patients and families with case management support through medications and equipment.
