Hospitalist Medical Director – Manchester, CT
To potential physician leaders,
I am the regional medical director for Sound Physicians, overseeing the dedicated hospitalist team at Manchester Memorial Hospital in Manchester, Connecticut, just a 20-minute drive from Hartford. I take immense pride in the hospital medicine practice we’ve built, and I extend a warm welcome to physician leaders who are considering advancing their careers or seeking a change.
I’m seeking a self-driven, goal-oriented individual who can adapt and serve as a leader for our team. We offer internal programs to develop or refine your leadership skills, fostering connections with a cohort of other medical directors. Both internal and family medicine physicians are encouraged to apply.
I’d like to provide you with deeper insight into who we are and what we do, focusing on our people, practice, and purpose as you contemplate your options:
People
- We’re a close-knit and highly skilled team comprised of eight physicians and two advanced practice providers (APPs). Together, we collaborate seamlessly with other hospital staff and departments to ensure the highest quality of patient care.
- Our team reflects a diverse blend of clinicians hailing from various geographic, educational, and training backgrounds. We value social interaction both within and outside of our work environment.
- Many of us actively participate in hospital committees, fostering strong relationships with specialists and receiving robust support from our hospital’s leadership.
- I’m committed to providing you with the support and resources you need to excel in your role, trusting you to meet our client’s needs.
- We’re fortunate to have a dedicated site coordinator who helps maintain a healthy work-life balance, and our spacious workspace offers a quiet environment for efficient documentation.
- Our clinical performance nurse assists in delivering an exceptional patient care experience.
- Located in Manchester, we enjoy the vibrancy of a diverse community, excellent schools, renowned universities, and easy access to top-notch tertiary care. Our strategic location places us between New York and Boston, with Connecticut and Rhode Island shorelines just a short drive away.
Practice
- Our hospital is a closed ICU with Sound intensivists on hand.
- Our responsibilities encompass rounds, admissions, discharges, multidisciplinary rounds, limited APP supervision, and the option to teach Eastern Connecticut Health Network family medicine residents. We engage in geographic rounding when feasible.
- As part of our hospitalist team, you’ll contribute to the rapid response and code team. We are all certified in basic life support and advanced cardiovascular life support, with our Sound intensivist team taking over the code once they arrive.
- Our team connects twice a month over lunch to address concerns and receive updates on Sound and hospital matters. We also organize monthly education days to deepen our understanding of our hospital department partners.
- Your schedule will entail Monday through Friday work with an expectation of five clinical shifts per month.
- While our schedule primarily follows a week-on/week-off pattern, we’re open to considering alternate options.
- We use Meditech and have access to our own internal informatics platform.
- Our comprehensive benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, life and AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability, 401k with a match, paid medical malpractice and tail coverage, and an annual CME allowance. Additionally, we offer a Path to Partnership track for securing your future.
- We maintain a strong retention rate and collaborate seamlessly within our team to ensure adequate coverage for colleagues’ time off.
Purpose
- Our unwavering commitment is to put patients first, always.
- I chose Sound because hospitalist medicine is at our core, and the organization has established effective processes for better patient care. I remain with Sound because the medical group has allowed me to create an environment in which clinicians find the practice of medicine enjoyable again.
- We highly value and support growth and development within our hospital medicine practice, offering opportunities for exploration at the local level and within the broader medical group.
