Intensivist
Full-Time Intensivist Opportunity in downtown Austin, TX!
This is an opportunity to work with a cohesive team, caring for complex cardiac surgery patients including VA ECMO. This position entails splitting time between St David’s Med Center and Heart Hospital of Austin, which sit 2 miles apart.
Heart Hospital of Austin:
Heart Hospital of Austin is home to one of the largest non-academic cardiovascular research programs in the world. Our hospital has been named a 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospital in the nation by IBM Watson Health for the past 12 years. Additionally, for four consecutive years, Healthgrades has awarded St. David’s Medical Center (which includes Heart Hospital of Austin) “America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award.”
- 14-bed CVICU
- 1 Intensivist from 8a-5pm; Intensivist takes night call from home every 3rd shift, backing up the APP who covers the ICU in-house overnight.
- Advanced Heart Failure Program with VA ECMO service.
- Collegial and well-staffed hospital. We have excellent collaboration with the ER, Hospitalist, and Cardiology teams
- We begin MDRs with the Advanced Heart Failure team at 9 am, then 10:30 am do rounds on the remainder of the patients
St David’s Medical Center:
Centrally located at 32nd Street & IH-35, St. David’s Medical Center offers a comprehensive stroke center, a certified Chest Pain Center, a 24-hour Emergency Department, and leading-edge care in women’s services, neurosciences, cardiovascular services, orthopedics, and rehabilitation.
- 24-bed medical/surgical ICU with 16 bed Neurocritical Care Unit
- 2 Intensivists during the day with night APP coverage. Intensivist takes night call from home every 3rd shift, backing up the APP who covers the ICU in-house overnight. Night call is extremely light and we rarely physically come back overnight.
- Neurosurgery and neurovascular referral center
- Affiliated with Texas A & M medical school
- St. David’s Medical Center is the only hospital in Texas to receive straight “A” ratings since The Leapfrog Group launched the Hospital Safety ScoreSM initiative
- Official healthcare partner of Austin FC, the city’s first major league sports team
Education, Training & Experience Required
- MD or DO
- Must be board certified or eligible in critical care and possess an active Texas medical license
- Ability to work as a team member
- Must have a commitment to excellence in clinical service, be forward-thinking and demonstrate problem-solving abilities necessary in this environment
- Excellent communication (written and verbal), analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to perform all technical skills in the critical care setting
