The Department of Emergency Medicine was excited to welcome our new Chair, Dr. Amit Chandra, this spring. Dr. Chandra is a Maryland ACEP Board of Directors member and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. As a resident of Frederick County, he is deeply invested in the success of FHH ED as the site of excellence in clinical care for this region.

Frederick Memorial Hospital opened in 1902 and is the sole hospital providing care to the entire Frederick and outlying counties as well as portions of West Virginia. The hospital offers advanced surgical services and state-of-the-art care in a variety of disciplines that are new to the Frederick Community, including the Da Vinci Surgical System. They were named “Top Performer on Key Quality Measures®” by The Joint Commission and have a $200 million dollar PEDS ED and newly renovated Main ED.

  • 298-bed, acute care, community hospital with 18 observation beds
  • Volume – 80,000 (Adult and Peds ED); 3rd busiest ED in Maryland
  • High Acuity: 30% admission rate
  • Integrated throughput with hospitalist, observation, pediatrics, and critical care – LWBS rate <3%
  • Board-certified in emergency medicine with 1+ years of experience required
  • ACLS, ATLS, and PALS certifications required
