Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant – Tucson, AZ

To our prospective teammates,

I am the medical director for Carondelet St. Joseph’s in Tucson, Arizona. I’ve been a part of Sound Physicians for the past five years. I extend a warm welcome to advanced practice providers (APPs) who seek new opportunities or are embarking on a career change. Allow me to provide you with insights into our organization, focusing on our dedicated people, our clinical practice, and our unwavering purpose as you contemplate your next steps:

People
  • We’re a hardworking, close-knit team of 11 physicians and 6 advanced practice providers (APPs) who work and communicate well with each other.
  • We thrive on the diversity of our clinicians, hailing from diverse geographic, educational, and training backgrounds. We continuously learn from one another and approach patient care with fresh perspectives.
  • We want to keep the team involved and hear their opinions and voice when making changes within the team. We value strong work ethic and honesty, and patient safety always comes first.
  • Teamwork is at the heart of what we do. We are always ready to lend a helping hand – even during procedures and at shift change.
  • Many of us are active on hospital committees, including the medical executive committee, which helps solidify our relationships with specialists and our very supportive administration. Clinicians can champion specific projects that help improve care, such as working to update current order sets.
Practice
  • We are a level I trauma center with a 50-bed Emergency Department overseeing 30,000-40,000 visits annually.
  • We’re looking for emergency medicine experience board-certified/eligible physicians.
  • Our advanced practice providers see triage and fast-track patients. We work alongside Sound’s hospital medicine team for a smooth transition.
  • Currently, we work eight-hour shifts to allow for a good work-life balance. We’re always there to support each other when covering shifts.
  • We see high-acuity patients and admit over 30% of our patients.
  • We have access to all major specialists. We are a comprehensive stroke center and PE thrombectomy center. We have a closed neuro & medical ICU and an OB center with a small neonatal ICU. We are an EMS base hospital.
  • We offer teaching opportunities as we take medical students on our service.
  • Regular monthly meetings, both remote and in-person, foster engagement and provide a platform for feedback.
  • Expected annual compensation based on 120 hours per month is $148,935.
  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life and AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability, 401k with match, paid medical malpractice and tail coverage, and annual CME allowance.
Purpose
  • Our top priority is always the well-being of our patients.
  • A focus on growth and development is a key feature of Sound, where teammates can expand their careers here locally and within the broader medical group.
  • We’re a community-minded team and encourage our team members who want to contribute in and out of the hospital to help make our local community thrive.
