Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant – Lexington, KY

To prospective teammates,

I’m the medical director for Sound Physicians hospitalist practice at St. Joseph Hospital and St. Joseph East Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. As a member of the Sound team for five years, I’m proud of the hospital medicine program we’ve built and welcome interest from nurse practitioners and physician assistants looking for a positive career change. I want to share more about us, specifically our people, practice, and purpose, as you consider your options:

  • We are a closely knit, established team of 20 physicians and six advanced practice providers (APPs), with the support of two clinical performance nurses.
  • We are a culturally diverse practice with a good balance of experienced providers and new graduates.
  • We have a strong partnership with our hospital administration and collaborate frequently on committees and projects to improve the function of our hospital and provide excellent patient care.
  • We have a supportive practice with frequent touch bases at work and social gatherings outside the hospital.
  • We welcome the challenge of complex cases, working in a semi-open ICU with 24-hour intensivist coverage. Our providers are welcome to perform procedures consistent with their privileges, but procedures are not a requirement.
  • We have team huddles at least three times a week and a monthly all-staff meeting to connect about the practice, hospital-related topics, and developments within Sound Physicians.
  • We have monthly educational CME meetings and hospital-wide hospital medicine committee meetings.
  • Hospitalist APPs independently manage pre-op patients in a clinic setting with support staff and available supervising physicians.
  • Most of us like to spend time with our families or outdoors, so a flexible schedule is available, and we cover for each other when we’re out.
  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability, 401k with match, paid medical malpractice and tail coverage, and annual CME allowance.
  • We put patients first. Always.
  • A focus on growth and development is foundational to Sound Physicians, and teammates are encouraged to expand their careers here locally or within the broader medical group.
  • We’re a community-minded team and encourage our team members who want to contribute in and out of the hospital to help make our local community thrive.

More about our community: If you’re considering relocating to Lexington, the area offers a blend of cultural richness, a strong horse industry, affordable living, and outdoor recreational opportunities. It appeals to those seeking a welcoming community with a touch of Southern charm and historical significance.
