Hospitalist – Port Huron, MI

To prospective teammates,

I’m the medical director for Sound Physicians at McLaren Port Huron in Port Huron, Michigan. I have been a part of Sound for six years. I’m proud of the hospitalist practice we have built and welcome interest from physicians coming out of training or desiring a career change. I’d like to share more about it, specifically about our people, practice, and purpose, as you consider options:

People
  • We are a friendly, fun-loving, well-established team of five physicians and one advanced practice provider (APP). We have two physicians from seven am to seven pm, and on high-volume days, we have one additional APP from seven am to seven pm. We have one nocturnist physician from seven pm to seven am.
  • Our Providers live in Port Huron and the Metro-Detroit area. Port Huron is an easy commute from Metro Detroit. Our clinical team is a tapestry of varied backgrounds, experiences, and expertise, ensuring a rich and inclusive approach to healthcare and professional development.
  • We take pride in our active engagement within the hospital community, collaborating with leaders, managers, and staff to elevate the quality of patient care. With a footprint in 11 committees, we are consistently the first to volunteer for quality improvement initiatives. Our multidisciplinary approach lays a robust foundation for patient-centered, high-quality care.
  • Acknowledging the inherent stress in the field of medicine, we counterbalance it by dedicating time for communal lunches and fostering connections through our shared insights into each other’s families, friends, and hobbies. Our team extends this tradition beyond the hospital walls, frequently inviting fellow clinicians to join social activities such as dinners, video games, sports, or symptomatic experiences.
  • We proudly sponsor J1 visa candidates through Conrad 30, and Sound has excellent in-house visa specialists and our licensing and credentialing experts. All required filing fees for the visa are paid, and services are covered by Sound.
Practice
  • This is an established community hospital that sees a diverse population of suburban and rural communities. We have an open ICU with intensivist coverage (procedures are not required). Our team responds to all adult code blue and rapid-response events in the hospital. We have strong specialty support, including pulmonary, cardiology, nephrology, infectious disease, and neurology, as well as a host of surgical/procedural services. The hospital offers complex cardiac procedures, including open-heart and TAVR.
  • For those who would like to teach, we will begin working with internal medicine residents in July 2024.
  • We have monthly team meetings. Our medical director hosts individual feedback sessions monthly to quarterly, depending on each clinician’s needs.
  • We generally keep to a seven on/off schedule with some flexibility around holidays and family needs. We work together to ensure that shifts are covered in a way that preserves each other’s work-life balance.
  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability, 401k with match, paid medical malpractice and tail coverage, and annual CME allowance.
Purpose
  • We put patients first. Always.
  • A focus on growth and development is a key feature of Sound’s practices, where teammates can expand their careers here locally and within the broader medical group.
  • We’re a community-minded team and encourage our team members who want to contribute in and out of the hospital to help make our local community thrive.
