Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant – Iron Mountain, MI

To prospective teammates,

I’m the medical director for Sound’s hospitalist practice at Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson in Iron Mountain, Michigan. I have been a part of Sound for 22 years and with the Marshfield Dickinson program for 12 years. I proudly welcome interest from advanced practice providers (APPs) coming out of training or desiring a career change. I’d like to share more about it, specifically about our people, practice, and purpose, as you consider your next steps:

People
  • We are a closely-knit, established team of four physicians and two advanced practice providers (APPs).  We have dedicated physicians and APPs who provide excellent patient care.
  • We have considerable diversity in geographic and training backgrounds. Cohesiveness and camaraderie within our group are second to none. Our fellow hospitalists are like family, and we will do everything possible to be supportive.
  • The hospitalists are integral to the functioning of the hospital. The hospitalists have a highly collegial relationship with the medical, surgical, and nursing departments and hospital administration. We are heavily involved in multiple committees that help optimize patient care.
  • Iron Mountain is a thriving small community in the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The school system is well-regarded. Yoopers enjoy all the four-season outdoor sports the Upper Peninsula has to offer.
  • We proudly sponsor J1 visa candidates, and Sound has excellent in-house visa specialists and our licensing and credentialing experts. All required filing fees for the visa are paid, and services are covered by Sound.
Practice
  • Marshfield Dickinson is part of the large Marshfield Clinic Rural Health Care Consortium, largely based in Wisconsin. Marshfield Dickinson is proud to be able to provide care to a wide range of complex health issues with the support of cardiology, oncology, nephrology, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, and interventional radiology.
  • Our seven-bed ICU, staffed by ICU-capable hospitalists, cares for a wide range of very ill and complex patients. The ICU is not a closed unit. All hospitalists can practice within the scope of their credentials.
  • Hospitalists are not required to perform procedures. Our interventional radiology team is always helpful, and all our ICU-capable hospitalists are fully credentialed for procedures.
  • ICU hospitalists typically respond to Code Blues and Rapid Medical Response, but the entire team will help as needed.
  • Our APPs have the autonomy to independently manage their own case load while actively engaging in patient care.
  • Our current staffing model calls for one capable ICU physician, one capable non-ICU physician, and one APP daily. We all work 12-hour shifts. SOUND Tele-Health provides night coverage.
  • Most of us like to spend time with our families or outdoors, so a flexible schedule is available, and we cover for each other when we’re out.
  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and AD&D insurance, long- and short-term disability, 401k with match, paid medical malpractice and tail coverage, and annual CME allowance.
Purpose
  • We put patients first. Always.
  • A focus on growth and development is a key feature of Sound’s practices, where teammates can expand their careers locally and within the broader medical group.
  • We’re a community-minded team and encourage our team members who want to contribute in and out of the hospital to help make our local community thrive.
